Global semiconductor company Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., has introduced Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform, a headworn Augmented Reality (AR) developer kit designed to enable the creation of immersive experiences that blur the lines between physical and digital realities. Snapdragon Spaces is in early access with select developers and is expected to be generally available in the Spring of 2022.
Snapdragon Spaces enables developers to build 3D applications for AR glasses from scratch or simply add headworn AR features to existing Android smartphone applications to drive a unified, multi-screen experience between the smartphone screen in 2D and the real world in 3D.
We are delighted to be working with hubraum and Deutsche Telekom on this exciting developer program to support Snapdragon Spaces
Enrico Salvatori, Senior Vice President Qualcomm Europe
Immediate access to Qualcomm’s latest technologies is the most important enabler for making mobile entertainment content spatially explorable in the future.
As a partner of the Snapdragon spaces program, Volucap has direct access to the latest technologies and development environments.
The Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform paves the way to a new frontier of spatial computing that enriches perception.
The platform is designed to develop immersive augmented reality experiences for AR glasses that adapt to any environment and enables to build the future of mixed realities.
For years, Volucap has been committed to advancing XR technology and exploring its possibilities. Together with the leading German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom, the Nreal mixed reality glasses were marketed to customers for the first time in Europe, enabling tangible 5G mixed reality experiences such as Tagesschau 2025 in stores.
hubraum launches the Snapdragon Spaces program with Qualcomm and T-Mobile U.S.
Hubraum, Telekom’s tech incubator, and the T-Mobile Accelerator are launching an exclusive program for developers, startups and creatives together with Qualcomm Technologies Inc. The search is on for exciting augmented reality apps for the Snapdragon Spaces™ XR developer platform.
With the combination of Qualcomm, Deutsche Telekom and Volucap technologies, we are ready to build apps that blur the lines between users’ physical and digital realities and empower them to have new experiences.
Volucap’s Studio is located on 1830 square feet (170 sq meters) in the FX Center within Studio Babelsberg. The almost 13 feet (4 meter) high light rotunda is equipped with a minimum of 32 cameras that capture every movement and facial expression from a 360° perspective. Inside the room, people and objects can be scanned three-dimensionally and lifelike. Recordings are later transformed into structured and animated 3D surfaces by intelligent software algorithms. Eventually, filmed subjects can be placed into any AR, MR, VR, 360, or 2D video/web application on a variety of devices — such as phones, holographic headsets, and Windows Mixed Reality Immersive Headsets.
